Chandrima is particularly known for the richness of her voice and the clarity
in delivery of the lyrics. Being the niece of Sri Nachiketa Ghosh, a famous and
highly respected figure in the musical sphere of Calcutta, she started singing
at the age of eight years and did her training in classical music under
Sangitacharya Sukhendu Goswami and Fakiruddin Dagar. Later she came under the
guidance of Smt Purabi Dutta, who is well known for her renderings of
compositions of Kazi Nazrul Islam. Chandrima was awarded national scholarship on basis of her performance at Nehru Talent Search contest at New Delhi in 1977. She completed her MA in music and got first position to bag the Vishwadeb Chattapadhayay Award in 1990. Chandrima has featured in many cassette recordings of established companies like HMV, ATM, Pan Music, etc and other private albums besides recording for serials, advertisements, TV programmes. She sings for All India Radio, Pondicherry and has performed all over India in many shows. She likes to sings modern songs with classical touch and she renders them in her own, unique style. She is equally adept at Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, Ghazals , Bhajans and film songs. Chandrima has also performed at several venues in Malaysia where she has conducted workshop and classes for her students.Having settled in Pondicherry, she pursues her music and teaches vocals at Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education and also conducts workshop for various organizations.
